Argentina striker Mauro Icardi has joined Paris St-Germain on a season-long loan deal from Inter Milan. The 26-year-old has also signed a two-year contract extension at Inter but the French champions have the option to make the move more permanent for a reported fee of €65 million.
“I am going to give my heart and soul to help my new team go as far as possible in all the competitions,” said Icardi. “PSG has become a stronghold in world football … I thank PSG for their confidence in me.”
“Paris St-Germain has become an international football powerhouse, attracting some of the greatest players in recent years.
“The momentum is strong in Paris, ambitions are high and I am sure that we have everything here to go even further.”
PSG also snapped up goalkeeper Keylor Navas from Real Madrid for an undisclosed fee, after Gianluigi Buffon returned to Juventus in the summer.
“I’m really excited to sign for Paris Saint-Germain,” Navas said. “After my experience in Spain I’m coming to France with high hopes.”
Meanwhile, Neymar’s hopes of sealing a return to Barcelona failed to come to fruition on transfer deadline day in Europe. A sure sign that nothing would materialise yesterday came when Neymar was pictured arriving in Miami to join his Brazil teammates for the friendly against Colombia this week.
