Stage four will be one of the toughest days for the riders, packing in almost 3,000 metres of climbing during its 171.5 kilometre east to west route.
Heading southwest from Gateshead, riders will pass the Angel of the North sculpture as they make their way through County Durham, crossing the Pennines and entering Cumbria.
This route includes one of the bigger hill climbs of the race, with a gruelling 500-metre ascent ahead of the race end in Kendal. The Kendal finish, atop the 500-metre, 11% average gradient climb of Beast Banks, has welcomed the OVO Energy Tour of Britain on three previous occasions.
