Nathaniel Clyne will not be available for this clash as he sustained a serious knee-injury pre-season. Meanwhile, James Milner has a minor muscle complaint and will be assessed ahead of Friday’s match.
Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah played against Manchester City on Sunday, but Sadio Mane has only recently returned to the club following his AFCON duties with Senegal, so he won’t be rushed back.
Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 25 Premier League home games against promoted teams – part of an ongoing 40-game undefeated streak at Anfield – while they have a particularly good recent record against Norwich too.
Liverpool predicted line-up: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Gomez, Robertson; Fabinho, Henderson, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Origi.
Norwich Team News
The @premierleague is finally here. 🙌
— Norwich City FC (@NorwichCityFC) August 9, 2019
Christoph Zimmermann is ruled out for Norwich, which could see Timm Klose, who is a doubt, start alongside Ben Godfrey in defence.
Both Louis Thompson and Alexander will both be sitting this one out.
Farke is grounded enough to know that this season opener may not be a glimpse of what is to come, though; Norwich picked up just one point from their first three Championship games last season, and only one win from their first five games, before going on to win the title.
Norwich predicted line-up: Fahrmann; Aarons, Godfrey, Klose, Lewis; McLean, Vrancic; Buendia, Stiepermann, Hernandez; Pukki.
- Liverpool have won seven and drawn two of nine fixtures since the turn of the millenium
- The last meeting saw Liverpool victorious 5-4 at Carrow Toad during the 2015/16 season
- During the 2013/14 campaign, Liverpool secured a narrow 3-2 win
Last 5 Matches
Liverpool haven’t been overly successful during pre-season, winning just three of their seven fixtures, two of which came in much weaker opposition in the form of Tranmere and Bradford.
Meanwhile, Norwich’s pre-season showing has also been inconsistent, featuring four victories from their seven games, defeating the likes of Schalke and Ligue 1 outfit Toulouse.
Liverpool 1-1 Manchester City (4-5 on Penalties)
|Norwich 1-0 Toulouse|
|Liverpool 3-1 Lyon||
Norwich 1-4 Atalanta
Liverpool 0-3 Napoli
|Luton Town 1-5 Norwich|
Liverpool 2-2 Sporting Lisbon
Norwich 1-3 Brentford
|Liverpool 1-2 Sevilla||
Schalke 1-2 Norwich
Prediction & Odds
Norwich were placed with a difficult pairing for their open-day match. With Liverpool seemingly better all over the park. It is clear that Norwich will be overpowered by Liverpool, despite having a threat in attack. We predict a 4-1 victory for Liverpool.
