The French football season gets underway on Saturday afternoon in the Chinese city of Shenzhen where Paris Saint-Germain and Rennes meet in the Trophee des Champions. PSG will be looking for revenge against Rennes as back in April they denied Thomas Tuchel’s team a domestic double by beating them on penalties in the final of the French Cup.

Neymar has not featured for PSG this summer amid speculation about his future. Neymar has almost fully recovered following an ankle injury which kept him out of the Copa America, but it remains to be seen whether he will be available for the match.
Thomas Tuchel’s men have won each of the last six editions of the trophy, recording some convincing victories including last year’s 4-0 success over Monaco and a 4-1 win over Lyon in 2016.
Paris Saint-Germain’s last starting line-up was:
GLK: Gianluigi Buffon
DEF: Dani Alves, Thiago Silva, Juan Bernat, Presnel Kimpembe, Thilo Kehrer, Marquinhos
MID: Angel Di Maria, Julian Draxler
FWD: Edinson Cavani, Kylian Mbappe

Rennes have no injury concerns ahead of this clash. Rennes did well to eliminate PSG in the French Cup last season, meaning that Edinson Cavani and team are hungry for revenge. As always, a man to keep an eye on in Thomas Tuchel’s team will be French superstar Kylian Mbappe, who is likely to prove a handful for the opposition defenders.
Rennes’s last starting line-up was:
GLK: Tomas Koubek
DEF: Damien Da Silva, Hamari Traore, Jeremy Gelin, Medhi Zeffane
MID: Clement Grenier, Benjamin Andre, Benjamin Bourigeaud
FWD: Hatem Ben Arfa, Ismaila Sarr, Mbaye Niang

- Nine of the last 11 meetings have seen over 3.5 goals pay-out comfortably

Prediction & Betting Odds
Despite the fact that Neymar is unlikely to play for PSG in the French Super Cup, we are tempted to put our money on Thomas Tuchel’s charges as the German tactician has a number of high-profile players to choose from.
It would be a major shock if PSG are not able to secure another success when playing against Rennes. PSG won both league encounters last season and another success is offered at odds 1.26* The Trophee des Champions tends to be an entertaining affair so we expect an exciting match, as Rennes are backed at 9.04*.
Over 3.5* goals in the game are at odds 1.8* while backing PSG to score over 2.5* goals at 1.38* is a solid option.
