PFA Premier League Team of the Year for 2019 announced

The Professional Footballers’ Association has revealed their picks for this year’s team of the year.

The PFA Team of the Year was voted for by members of the Professional Footballers’ Association, the players’ union.

The best 11 players chosen by PFA for the team of the year include ten players from Liverpool and Manchester City. The other player is Manchester United’s Paul Pogba.

Current Premier League leaders Manchester City have six of the 11 who were all voted by fellow players while Liverpool have four.

The Brazilian shot-stopper was able to keep 18 Premier League clean sheets this campaign with three matches still to be played. He becomes the first ever Manchester City goalkeeper to keep as many clean sheets as he did in the competition.

Trent Alexander-Arnold

Liverpool and England international right-back Alexander-Arnold is once again having a great season with the Reds. He’s averaging a Premier League assist every 275 minutes this season, the best ratio among defenders in the league.

Aymeric Laporte

The French defender arrived in England last year with a very big price tag with him and was able to immediately take control of the City defence. He’s the defender with most passes this season in the Premier League (2,514).

Virgil van Dijk

The robust Reds defender joined Liverpool just over a year ago and has taken the Premier League by a storm ever since. He has provided world-class performances on a constant basis and was able to solve Liverpool’s defensive problems from previous seasons. He’s the defender with the most clean sheets in the league (25).

Andrew Robertson

Liverpool’s left-back Robertson is famous for his ability to balance his match, both defending and attacking down the flanks. He’s provided more Premier League assists this season than any other of his Liverpool teammates (nine).

City’s defensive midfielder has had yet another impressive season this year with the team’s winning percentage much higher when he’s on the pitch compared to when he’s not. In fact with the Brazilian playing City had an 86% winning rate while when he’s absent from the starting lineup the winning rate was 67%.

Bernardo Silva

The Portuguese attacking midfielder has improved further on last season having been crucial in most matches for his side and scoring seven goals in 33 Premier League appearances this campaign. Last year he scored 6 in 35 matches.

Paul Pogba

The French midfielder is the only player to make the selection who is not a Liverpool or Manchester City player. Pogba’s been involved in 22 goals for his team this season, more than he has in any of his previous campaigns in the top 5 leagues.

Sadio Mane

Liverpool’s left winger Mane has been showing his best qualities this season and has had his best ever Premier League campaign ever since his first one with Southampton back in 2014. He currently has 18 goals and an assist in the league.

Sergio Aguero

Like most of his past seasons, Sergio Aguero has been in world-class form once more this season. It was an iconic run for the Argentine forward since he was able to reach 150 Premier League goals for a single club, joining the likes of Wayne Rooney and Thierry Henry in the same standings.

Raheem Sterling

The English right winger has had another outstanding campaign in the Premier League, having been involved in more Premier League goals than any other English player this season, with 27.

Some important names had to miss out as well and these include Arsenal’s Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah, England captain Harry Kane as well as Eden Hazard from Chelsea.
