Can Lewis Hamilton seal his sixth World Championship in Mexico?

Lewis Hamilton is one more title away from equalling Michael Schumacher’s coveted record of seven Championships. Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas is the only man who can now stand in his way (mathematically speaking). However, with a 64-point lead things are looking up for Hamilton – Lewis Hamilton to win Mexican GP: 3.6*; Valterri Bottas to win: 9.5*

Mexican Grand Prix Facts & Stats:

  • Mercedes are expecting the high-speed race to present their “most difficult” challenge before the end of the season
  • The Scuderia have claimed every pole position since the summer break and another qualifying surge this weekend would make it six in a row

At the end of the long pit straight is the best chance to overtake, as it’s one of the biggest braking zones on the circuit. Failing that, going into the tight turn four also presents an opportunity. However, the middle and end of the lap is quite tight and twisty and following closely is difficult. Passing is, naturally, even more difficult.

Lewis Hamilton is within touching distance of becoming the second most decorated driver in Formula 1 history. Will his teammate come in the way or will Hamilton equal Michael Schumacher’s record?

Meanwhile, Verstappen looks to secure a treble this weekend in Mexico (and a first victory since the German Grand Prix in July), he too could potentially be scuppered by his own team-mate.

> How can Hamilton win the title in Mexico?

  1. If Hamilton takes victory (25pts) and fastest lap (1pt), he will be champion if Bottas finishes fourth (12pts) or lower
  2. If Hamilton takes victory without the fastest lap, he will be champion if Bottas finishes fifth (10pts) or lower
  3. If Hamilton finishes second (18pts) with the fastest lap (1pt), he will be champion if Bottas finishes eighth (4pts) or lower
  4. If Hamilton finishes second without the fastest lap, he will be champion if Bottas finishes eighth, without the fastest lap, or lower
  5. If Hamilton finishes third (15pts) with the fastest lap (1pt), he will be champion if Bottas finishes ninth (2pts) or lower
  6. If Hamilton finishes third without the fastest lap, he will be champion if Bottas finishes 10th or lower without the fastest lap
