Neymar scored 28 goals in 29 appearances in his first six months at PSG
It’s maybe something that is impossible to become reality but Thierry Henry seemed dead honest when he tipped Neymar to quit football. As he spoke to Marca, the former Barcelona player was referring to the Brazilian’s obsession to break away from Messi’s shadow.
PSG star Neymar left Messi and Barcelona this summer in a world record £198million transfer deal. Part of the reason to leave Barcelona was the desire to play away from the shadow of Messi and forge a career for himself. This was also suggested by his PSG team-mate Dani Alves. But Henry disagrees with this thought and firmly said that Messi will always dominate and be above everyone else wherever you play.
“I don’t know if Neymar left Barcelona to get out of Messi’s shadow.
“What is true is that all players are in Messi’s shadow, and if Neymar doesn’t want to be, he should change sport.”
As the number 10 settled in the French capital he scored 28 goals in 29 matches. PSG are also leading the French Ligue 1. But not the same could be said in the Champions League. Emery’s team are on the brink of elimination after a 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the first leg. If Real Madrid do knock out PSG, Neymar’s hopes of a Ballon d’Or triumph will instantly vanish. The firm favourites will obviously remain Ronaldo and Messi.
