A free agent is a player whose club contract expires and has the liberty to move to a new club unhindered by contractual restraints. Some of the biggest players in European football will be able to do so upon their contract expiry this summer.
Free agent opportunities to watch out for!
There will be opportunities not to be missed by some of the European clubs looking for a bargain. That’s why we think these footballing giants will be doing their homework very meticulously ahead of the opening of the transfer window.
Our team at Online Sports Blog, have come up with a list of some of the most interesting players set to become free agents very soon.
Maybe one of the most underrated forwards of his generation, Edinson Cavani is set to leave Paris Saint-Germain very soon. Despite the shadow imposed by his teammate Neymar and Mbappe, Cavani still managed to bag 23 goals last season.
Atletico Madrid showed interest in the striker last January but the deal was halted by the French side. Now, it is most likely that Cavani will leave the French capital in the coming weeks as a free agent. For sure, there will be numerous clubs lining up for the Uruguayan forward.
It’s almost sure now that Thiago Silva has finished his last season in Paris after 8 years at the club. He’s supposed to have his contract worn out and will end up on the free-agent list in the summer.
Earlier on he has made public his interest in finishing his career at PSG. “I would like to finish my career in Paris, but it will depend on how this season ends,” but with the unpredictability of the transfer market we think it’s not over yet for the Brazil international.
Paris Saint-Germain club-record goalscorer Edinson Cavani and captain Thiago Silva lead the list of 10 high-profile stars set to become free agents in the off-season.

The 2014 World Cup hero for Germany could be looking to move away from Borussia Dortmund for the second time in his career. Gotze had little space at BVB and could reignite his career if he lands the right move ahead of next season.
At just 27, the German talent is set to go out of contract and will join the free agent club this summer. With his prime still not reached, will Mario Gotze finally settle at a club and return to his former best?
After failing to meet expectations at AC Milan since he joined in January, Ibrahimovic could find himself as a free agent yet again. The demand from the former PSG striker and his agent seem to be too much for the Serie A club to offer a contract extension.
If his contract is not extended, there will be fierce competition for his capture this summer. Among the interested clubs, there is Swedish side Hammarby (of which Zlatan is a co-owner) that are interested in the 38-year old forward.
Another big name on the free-agent list is Manchester City’s “Merlin” David Silva. The Spanish playmaker is set to leave the Etihad this summer with clubs outside of the Premier League more likely to get his signature.
Newly founded MLS club Inter Miami are said to be interested in the signing of David Silva. However, they might have to face competition from clubs from other continents predominantly from Japan and Qatar.
