Brazil training leads to injury
During a training session with Brazil, Fred suffered a ‘trauma in his ankle’ according to national team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar, raising issues of concern. The Manchester United-bound player had passed a medical with United just a few days before ahead of his proposed £50m-plus move to Old Trafford. Therefore, it is no doubt that Jose Mourinho is sweating about the situation.
Brazil were training in a warm-up game ahead against Russia when the incident occurred. Fred was tackled by Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro. Fred subsequently required ice treatment and had to sit out the remainder of the session.
Brazil defender Marcelo hopes Fred’s injury is nothing serious and that he will be back amongst the squad sooner rather than later.
“This is the World Cup, everyone is training hard and working hard,” said Marcelo.
“I believe that it is not that bad, it is not a big issue and he will be back with us as soon as possible.”
Brazil open their World Cup campaign against Switzerland in Rostov-on-Don on Sunday June 17, before playing Costa Rica and Serbia in their remaining Group E fixtures.
