Franch football shocked by death of 18-year-old
Yet another tragedy hits football! French Ligue 2 side FC Tours announced that defender Thomas Rodriguez died. The full-back,18, hadn’t featured yet with the senior team but played regularly in the reserves team. According to the Daily Express, the French footballer was found in his bed between the evening of Thursday 8 March and the following morning. The circumstances were similar to those of Davide Astori who passed away last Sunday in his sleep. Additionally, authorities opened a judicial inquiry about Rodriguez’s death and scheduled an autopsy for next week.
A statement from club FC Tours read:
“Tours FC is shattered by this tragedy, which plunges the club into an immense sadness.
“The club extends its deepest condolences to the family, loved ones, all of Thomas’s teammates and friends and gives them all their support in these difficult times.”
In remembrance of Rodriguez, the Professional Football League (LFP) decided to postpone the Tours v Valenciennes match. Moreover, all Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 matces will have a minute of silence before kick-off as a tribute to Rodriguez.
