The Juventus superstar’s mum Dolores Aveiro has spoken out for the first time since last year’s rape allegations against her son.
She did so during the presentation of her new brand of wine and oil in collaboration with Queijaria Nacional.
“This project is a dream that accompanies me from a very young age and that I have finally managed to achieve,” said Ronaldo’s mother.
The 64-year old said she has total confidence in her son and knows that her son is not someone to do something like this.
Dolores went on to claim that the alleged victim of rape Kathryn Mayorga went to the hotel with bad intentions and to do something else rather than play cards.
“I have confidence in my son with regard to what happened. She didn’t go there to play cards but to do something. I know the son I have.” Dolores Aveiro said to Marca.
Mayorga, an American teacher accused the Portuguese superstar of raping her back in 2009, which Ronaldo had denied immediately via social media in October.
“I firmly deny the accusations being issued against me. Rape is an abominable crime that goes against everything that I am and believe in. Keen as I may be to clear my name, I refuse to feed the media spectacle created by people seeking to promote themselves at my expense,” the 34-year old had said.
My clear conscious will thereby allow me to await with tranquillity the results of any and all investigations.”
At that time, Cristiano Ronaldo’s close friends and family had also shared a picture on social media of her son in a Superman cape, calling for justice with her son.
In January, US police had said that they requested a DNA sample from the Portuguese footballer to pass it on to Italian authorities for further investigations.
The alleged victim’s lawyers are also considering taking the case to America’s Supreme Court if necessary.
