The recent ‘changes’ in Malta’s Premier League teams
The Premier League is set to resume on Friday, due to Malta’s commitments to the UEFA Nations’s League, and a recent announcement about an increase in foreign players has sparked many people’s attention.
Currently, a team competing in Malta’s Premier League consists of a maximum of seven foreign players, but rumour has it the number of foreigners on the field is set to increase to eleven. Maltafootball.com explained the circumstances and what more foreign players would entail.
MALTA FA STATEMENT
It has been noted that the claim is not supported by the Malta Football Association , as they responded to such ‘reports’ by posting a statement on their social media page dismissing it all together. The reality is that such a proposal has not been put forward to the association.
‘In light of reports in the media regarding the possibility of increasing the number of foreign players in the BOV Premier League, it is to be noted that the Malta Football Association has not yet received any proposal in this regard. If such proposal were to be put forward, it would be subject to the evaluation and endorsement of the Malta FA Council, which is the body that comprises all clubs and stakeholders.’
The BOV Premier League will commence on Friday.
