Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde reforms squad in preparation for next season.
Ernesto Valverde is already planning his squad for the upcoming season. Barcelona have accomplished an unbelievable feat this season. As it stands, the Catalans have not only secured their spot for the title, but they are also only 2 games away from making history for their unbeaten performance in this year’s La Liga.
However, Valverde is keen on higher achievements for next season. Looking back you can see why. His team fell out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage against Roma with the Italians going through with the away goal rule.
The Catalans have been said to reach the reported release clause to obtain the Frenchman Antoine Griezmann, however, Valverde must first clear out a few players to make some room for the newcomers.
According to Sport.es, a list of comprising eight Barcelona players are on the verge of departing from the Nou Camp. Lucas Digne, Andre Gomes, Paco Alcacer, Denis Suarez and Aleix Vidal are among those mentioned who are likely to join a new club for regular starts on the pitch.
The list also includes Andres Iniesta who has spent his entire life at Barcelona and is the most successful player in their history alongside Messi. The captain is leaving at the end of the season to finish his career in China.
Rafinha (Inter), Munir El Haddadi (Alaves) and Gerard Deulofeu (Watford) are the current players on loan and have been linked to a permanent stay at their current clubs.
The reason why the FC Barcelona manager is willing to sell so many of his players is probably that he requires 100 million Euro to pay the Griezmann release clause to avoid negotiations. Nothing has been confirmed though and it is clear that selling all of the rumoured players would exceed the target amount.
All in all, what Valverde has managed to achieve in just one season since replacing Luis Enrique has been impressive, to say the least, having already won the La Liga title as well as the Copa del Rey. We just have to wait and see what the Barcelona manager has in store for next season.
