Drama to Russia, Spain will carry on
Two days of drama at the Spanish FA, and Hierro is coming in strong. Luis Rubiales is confident that the team will remain focused on winning the Cup. Fernando Hierro replaced Julen Lopetgui just 2 days before the opening of the biggest football competition in the world. Talk about chaotic. However, Rubiales spoke to Cope’s El Partidazo programme and assured the world things are in order.
“[The players], they are completely determined to have a good World Cup.”There is no rebellion, the players are really good.”
“Hierro has acted in a very honest way,” Rubiales stated.
Spain and Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has issued a rallying cry on his twitter account to his Spanish teammates saying: “We represent the badge, the colours, the fans, the country.
“Responsibility and commitment are with you. Yesterday, today and tomorrow.”
“They players have received him with pleasure and they have told me that they’ll be with him to the death, Rubiales explained; “With Sergio Ramos it’ll be very good too, with him being captain.”
Rubiales went on to explain further how the whole situation came about and he expressed his disappointment with Real Madrid, especially when Sevilla have since allowed one of their employees, Carlos Marchena, to come to the aid of La Roja.
“I spoke with Florentino Perez yesterday [on Tuesday],” he revealed.
“We didn’t argue, but I made him see how things were.”I’d have accepted communication and normal procedure, if he’d said ‘Hey Luis, let’s talk about how we do this’.
He went on to confirm that there is no pay-off payment to be made to Lopetegui.
Now, it is up to Hierro to lead Spain on in Russia. With compliance from the players and a competitive attitude, things aren’t looking too bad for Spain after all!
On Friday, Hierro will direct his first training, and he will debut in Sochi at the match between Spain and Portugal.
