Diogo Dalot is a “modern fullback with an appetite for attack” according to Porto’s website.

According to SkySports news, Diogo Dalot is set to sign for Manchester United for €20m after completing his medical. Dalot is set to join Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred as one of Manchester’s first signings of the transfer window.

Dalot made his way up the ranks at Porto Academy while he was representing Portugal at youth level, where he first featured for the U15s in June 2014. He then moved on to become a regular fixture in the U17 side and even played a key role in their victory at the 2016 European Championship.

The young Dalot opened the scoring in the final against Spain, and though Manchester City’s Brahim Diaz quickly equalised, Portugal took home the trophy after winning 6-5 on penalties.

Since then, Dalot moved on to play for the U21 side, featuring 4 times, with improved likelihood of securing the Euro 2019 qualification for Italy.

He went from UEFA Youth League to Primera Liga. Dalot played with Porto’s U19 side in the UEFA Youth League but moved on to feature regularly for the reserve side, who play Portugal’s second division LigaPro come to the 2017-2018 campaign.

In February 2018, Dalot made his first-team debut at the age of 18. He came off the bench and played in a 5-0 win over Rio Ave.

After another substitute appearance against Estoril, Dalot then started four consecutive games for Porto, recording two assists in the first of those against Portimonense. During that time he also appeared in the Champions League in the last-16 second-leg goalless draw at Liverpool, though the tie was already beyond Porto after a 5-0 first leg loss.

“It’s a kid who has done an exceptional job in team B,” said manager Sergio Conceicao in February. “Dalot has very good behaviour, but it’s just a game. Success has nothing to do with one or another good performance, but rather give continuity and assert himself more at FC Porto. He has the quality to do so. He is a great player.”
