Peter Crouch is on SerieA outfit Parma’s target list
Yes, you read that right, SerieA side Parma are looking to sign former England international Peter Crouch. Following a tumultuous period battling numerous obstacles, historic SerieA side Parma are back amongst the big boys. Just three years ago, I Crociati were playing SerieD football after being relegated due to bankruptcy. However, back to back to back promotions have seen the former giants return where they belong.
Although getting back to the top tier of Italian football was no piece of cake, staying there will be the real challenge for Parma. Last season, two of the newly promoted sides, Verona and Benevento, were both relegated on the first attempt after finishing 19th and 20th respectively. Lack of goals led to the demise of both clubs. Verona ended the season with 30 goals while Benevento only managed 33. In the Serie B, Parma managed just 57 goals in 42 league games – 31 goals less than champions Empoli. Not looking to the repeat the same mistake, Parma are in the hunt for a goal hero.
According to SportItalia, Stoke City star Peter Crouch is one of the forwards currently being monitored by Parma. The Englishman ended the 2017/18 season with just 6 goals. However, a move to the land of Pizza could just be what he needs to rejuvenate his career. With Stoke City relegated and looking to rebuild their squad, Parma could be able to nab the 6,8″ striker on the cheap.
Despite being in the latter stages of his career, Crouch to Parma does make sense. The towering forward brings with him plenty of experience and a proven track record. The former Tottenham and Liverpool target man has scored 203 goals in his career including 108 league goals. At the start of this year, Crouch became the oldest player to score 100 Premier League goals and only the 28th player to achieve this feat.
