Javier Mascherano set to depart Barcelona after 8 years of service
Former Liverpool midfielder now turned defender Javier Mascherano is leaving the Nou Camp. The 33-year-old is set to join Chinese side Hebei Fortune were Argentinian compatriot Lavezzi already plays. Moreover, the team is managed by former Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini.
The news was broken on Social Media side Twitter by Journalist Fernando Cxyz.
The latter tweeted :
“Javier Mascherano is a new player of China’s Hebei Fortune.
“There was an agreement with Barcelona and his buyer and the Argentinian… leaves behind one of the best clubs in the world.”
Mascherano’s time with Barcelona has been a highly successful one. During his 8 year stay at the club, the once West Ham player won over 10 major trophies. Including, 4 La Liga titles and 2 Champions League winners medal. Moreover, he also won 2 Club World Cups.
Furthermore, with Mascherano leaving in January, the La Liga leaders are already looking for a replacement. Barca’s extensive list of potential targets includes Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld and Milan’s Bonucci. However, sources close to the club believe Palmeiras star Yerry Mina is Ernesto Valverde’s prime target.
