Italian international will join Juventus for 13 Million Euros.
According to Italian publication Il Gazzetta Dello Sport, Italian champions Juventus are on the brink of signing Matteo Darmian. If the reports published in the Italian newspaper are accurate, the Bianconeri are set to sign the 28-year-old Italian international in the coming days. The deal, is expected to be announced in the coming days and will cost Juventus around 13 Million Euros, a bargain in today’s market.
The experienced defender is seen by many as the perfect replacement for Stephan Lichtsteiner. The latter brought the curtain down on his Juventus career after making over 200 appearances. The Swiss international won 14 major honours with Juventus, including 7 straight Serie A titles.
Darmian, who in the past played for Juventus’ arch-rivals Torino joined Manchester United back in the summer of 2015 for 13.7 Million Euros. The defender was one of Louis Van Gaal’s first signings for Manchester United. He played regularly under the Dutchman but has struggled to get any game time under Jose Mourinho. With Ashley Young and Valencia the preferred choices, Darmian only managed 8 Premier League appearance this season.
Nonetheless, sources close to the Red Devils claim Jose Mourinho is not keen on letting go of the defender but with just one year left on his contract, United have no option but to cash in and recoup some of their losses.
Juventus new signing has Serie A experience
Matteo Darmian made his first team debut when he was just 16 years after coming on to replace Kakha Kaladze in AC Milan’s Coppa Italia clash against Brescia. In 2007, now 17 years old the youngster made his first Serie A appearance in the Rossoneri’s 3-2 loss to Udinese. After spending some time with Padova and Palermo, Darmian joined Torino. There he became a household name. During his 4 year stay at the club, he made over 130 appearances and was twice named in the Italian Serie A team of the year.
