Mourinho eager to sign another deal before Russia
Mourinho is desperate to complete another deal before the World Cup starts. He is hopeful to complete two or three more signings at least this summer. The Red Devils have already landed two players this summer; Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred and Porto right-back Diogo Dalot.
While Fred is yet to be officially unveiled as a United player, a £52m deal was agreed and he is set to move within the week. Now, Mourinho is eager to sign another player or more before Thursday. Moreover, Van der Sar thinks Mourinho needs at least one more new addition after him – at least.
“Maybe it’s more difficult, now more money is coming into the game,” he said.
“Others are also catching up a lot. Maybe richer owners are investing larger amounts of money into the squad.
“Hopefully United can catch up. [They] finished second, lost the FA Cup final.
“This year they need another two or three signings to stay a little bit more on that level with City than this year.”
United have been linked with a number of stars following a trophyless season. Mourinho is desperate to sign Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld, and talks have been underway between both clubs.
Mourinho is keen to lock down his United defense this summer, while offloading the dead wood at Old Trafford. They are expected to sell Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind, while Luke Shaw’s future remains unknown since Mourinho had publicly slammed the England international with the Special One claiming Shaw needs guidance.
Mourinho will have to act quickly, as the World Cup will soon begin, and he is keen to improve across the board.
