Icardi with a thanks but no thanks to Real Madrid
24-year-old striker Mauro Icardi is the man of the moment. The Argentinian powerhouse has been in devastating form all season taking Inter all the way to the top of the table. Sunday’s strike against Chievo, means Icardi has now scored 16 Serie A goals in just 15 matches. His form has not gone unnoticed. In September of this year, new biancocelesti coach Jorge Sampaoli handed the Nerazzurri captain his first international call-up since 2013. The controversial striker made 5 appearances in Argentina’s World Cup qualifying campaign helping his country seal a place in Russia.
In an interview with telefe, Icardi spoke of his pride at being recognized one of his countries best talents.
“To be called up be the Argentina national team feel like a reward for the hard work I have put in at Inter.” said Icardi
Despite being one of the hottest strikers in football, Icardi is taking nothing for granted.
“Everything is going well and I hope I will keep scoring like this up until the end of the season since I would love to go to Russia.”
Aside from national team questions, Icardi was also asked about a rumoured move away from Italy. However, for the second time in the space of two weeks, he retreated his desire to stay with Inter.
“Real Madrid? We are happy here in Italy. We are first in the Italian league standings, I am the league’s top scorer, what more can I ask for? “.
Icardi will be back in action next week when his Inter side takes on reigning champions Juventus in a mouth-watering clash for top spot.
