Ander Herrera’s future at Old Trafford doesn’t look bright
Current La Liga champions, Barcelona, have apparently shown interest in the Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera. There have been reports that Jose Mourinho is ready to accept a £22 million deal to see the Spaniard move to the Nou Camp by the end of the season.
The La Liga champions have been busy focusing on the upcoming season since Valverde’s side have been knocked out early from the Champions League competition. Herrera is just one of the prospective changes that the Catalans hope to achieve.
Since the move from Athletic Bilbao back in the summer of 2014, Herrera made more than 150 appearances for the 20-time English Champions, however, there have been mixed opinions amongst United’s fans who claim that selling Herrera will actually be beneficial for both the club and the player himself.
Herrera had won the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award last season with the Red Devils. However, he has struggled significantly this season especially following the arrival of Nemanja Matic who is seen to take his place in the starting XI.
In only 36 appearances this season, the midfielder has only scored twice and managed two assists. Though he did net the winning goal for United against Tottenham to take his team to the FA Cup Final on May 26th.
Despite that Ander Herrera’s contract will expire at the end of the 2018-2019 campaign, it seems that Mourinho does not vision the midfielder as part of the starting team following his performance this season. Having said that, one can hardly argue with the decisions of Portuguese manager, who has lifted United back up to its feet after Sir Alex Ferguson
If the move does go through, the Spaniard will be reunited with his former manager from Bilbao, Ernesto Valverde.
