Article created a huge backlash on the social media
The English saying says: ‘Don’t judge a book by its cover’. Unfortunately not everyone understands this saying. In Egypt, a journalist decided to compare Liverpool player Mohamed Salah to a terrorist because of his appearance.
Salah Montaser, a columnist for state-run newspaper Al-Ahram said that the Liverpool player should shave his beard as it “puts him in one basket with extremists … and terrorists”. This statement received loads of criticism from people especially on the social media. Many highlighted the fact that facial hair isn’t a symbol of terrorism and no one should judge anyone by the appearance.
Momentarily, Salah is having one hell of a season. Primarily, he helped his nation Egypt qualify for the World Cup finals in Russia. A feat obtained for the first time since 1990. Salah scored the goal that ascertained the Egyptians place. In turn, this transformed Salah into a huge celebrity in his country. Besides that, since moving to Liverpool, Salah has become a revelation. In fact he has scored 32 goals in 40 appearances for the Reds. Additionally, with Kane’s injury, Salah is the favourite to win the Premeir League’s golden boot as the pair sit equally on 24 goals.
