Le Streghe confirm high-profile signing
Serie A wooden-spoonists Benevento have confirmed a sterling signing on their behalf. This is none other than former Arsenal and Manchester City full-back Bacary Sagna. The French international has signed a contract until the end of this season with an option to extend another year. This option kicks in if Benevento manage to save themselves from relegation. Sagna has been a free agent since City decided not to extend his stay last June.
The French right-back has 65 caps under his name with the French national team. Moreover, the 34-year-old had offers from prolific teams. Among those are Schalke, Besiktas, Malaga and Olympicaos according to Sky Sport Italia. While speaking for footballfancast.com, Sagna said:
“My career for the past decade has been at the very top level, what Benevento offers me is the opportunity to represent the underdog and to play for a club whose story is such a beautiful one.
“In an era when football has become more of a business at many clubs than an actual sport, Benevento represents the heart and soul of what a football club should be about. Passion, heart, hope, joy, love and a philosophy that is aligned to that of my own way of thinking in life.”
Despite Sagna signing today, he will only be available after tomorrow’s match against Napoli.
