Manchester United lost 2-0 to Spurs at Wembley Stadium
Yesterday evening, Manchester United suffered defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspurs. The Lilywhites deserved the win while the United manager lamented about ‘ridiculous’ defending. What also caught the eye was Fellaini’s seven minute cameo during the game. Jose Mourinho put in Fellaini in the 63rd minute instead of Jessie Lingard. But in the 70th minute, Mourinho took Fellaini off with Ander Herrera taking his place. This left everyone baffled!
But after the match, Mourinho explained the substitutions.
“I think I was unlucky with Fellaini because I want to change the structure and dynamic of the team and after a couple of minutes he’s injured.
“It’s always the same thing. It’s not a big, big thing but we felt something and he was telling us he could not carry on.”
The injury comes as another blow for the Belgian midfielder. He has already missed 12 matches from United’s opening 25 matches due to a knee injury. Furthermore, these injuries hinder the chances of an extension with the Red Devils. Fellaini’s contract ends next June.
Marouane Fellaini was one of the first signings during David Moyes’ reign at Manchester United. In these five years, Fellaini played in 149 matches, scored 19 times and assisted 10 goals.
