Juventus’ bid touted as too low
It’s not that common that someone chooses Monaco over Juventus. But Italy’s top prospect Pietro Pellegri decided to move to Monaco and ditch Juventus’ interest. Furthermore, Genoa confirmed that only details remain for Pellegri to officially join Monaco.
“We are down to the details for Pellegri’s sale to Monaco,” Genoa director Giorgio Perinetti told Sportitalia.
Monaco will pay around €25million plus bonuses for the 16-year-old. If, Pellegri is later on sold for a fee of over €40million, Monaco will be obliged to pay Genoa 10% of the fee. Eventually, he will sign a five-year contract with Monaco as he receives €1million per season. Prior to Monaco’s interest, Juventus bid €10million for Pellegri. But Genoa rejected the offer immediately as they felt it was low. Moreover, Pellegri’s choice to move to France was influenced by the fact that Monaco could offer more time in the Ligue 1 and Champions League than Juventus. Besides that he will replace Guido Carillo after the latter joined Southampton this week.
Pietro Pellegri will turn 17 in March. Until now, he has registered three goals in eight Serie A matches. The Monaco-bound youngster has a Serie A joint record for the youngest debutante at 15 years and 280 days. Pellegri is also Serie A’s youngest ever goal-scorer.
